What does it truly mean to be a friend of God? That question cuts deeper than we might expect, because most of us carry a distorted picture of what real friendship even looks like. This message takes us back to the foundations, letting Scripture define friendship on its own terms. A true friend loves consistently, speaks truth even when it wounds, sharpens us through friction, and walks alongside us in the hard seasons of life. When we hold that biblical definition up against our relationship with God, something remarkable comes into focus. We were not created to drift through life in isolation. We were made in the image of a God who exists in eternal, mutual friendship within the Trinity itself. That is why we long for connection. That longing is not accidental. It is woven into the very fabric of what we are. John 15 brings this home with stunning clarity, where we are told that the greatest love a person can show is to lay down their life for their friends, and then we are told that we can be counted among those friends. The question this message presses us to answer honestly is whether we are truly pursuing that friendship or simply being friendly with God on our own comfortable terms.
